Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

Plant Diversity of Central Asia welcomes original research articles, review articles and short communications on the flora, vegetation, systematics, ecology, phytogeography and conservation of Central Asia. Please read these guidelines carefully before submitting.

You do not format the article — the journal does

Upload the manuscript source only. The journal converts it into the official two-column PDF layout automatically: page size, fonts, margins, running heads, page numbers, figure, table and equation numbering and the reference list are all applied for you. You will see the formatted article and can check it before the submission is created.

Accepted source files:

  • Microsoft Word — a single .docx file.
  • LaTeX — a .tex file, or a .zip containing the .tex, the .bib and the figures.

Maximum upload size 50 MB. Please do not upload a PDF — a finished PDF cannot be re-formatted.

Manuscript templates (optional)

The templates are no longer required, but they follow the structure the system expects and make the automatic conversion more accurate: Word (EN), Word (RU), Word (UZ), LaTeX.

Manuscripts are accepted in English, Uzbek or Russian; an English title, abstract and keywords are required for all articles.

Manuscript structure

  • Title — concise and informative, at most 15 words.
  • Authors and affiliations, with ORCID iD where available and one designated corresponding author with a valid e-mail address.
  • Abstract of 150–250 words and 5–8 keywords. English is required; Russian and Uzbek abstracts are welcome and are printed as well.
  • Main text: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions.
  • Acknowledgements, funding, author contributions and conflict-of-interest statements.
  • References in Vancouver style, with DOIs where available.

What still matters in your file

Layout is handled for you, so there is no need to set page size, fonts, margins or line spacing. The following, however, are taken from your file and cannot be corrected automatically:

  • Figures at ≥300 dpi, embedded in the document or supplied in the archive, each with a caption.
  • Tables as real tables, not images, each with a caption.
  • Latin names of taxa in italics; authorities on first mention; nomenclature following current codes.
  • SI units throughout; new taxa must cite a designated holotype and herbarium.

How submission works

  1. Upload your .docx or LaTeX source.
  2. Check the title, authors, affiliations, abstract and keywords the system read from your file, and correct anything that is wrong.
  3. Review the formatted PDF, exactly as it will be published.
  4. Confirm — the submission is created with your original file and the formatted PDF attached.

If the manuscript does not meet the journal’s requirements, the system explains exactly what to fix and no submission is created. Every author listed on the manuscript receives an automatic e-mail confirming the submission.

Review and publication

All research articles undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent experts. Ensure your files are anonymised for review. Accepted articles are published Open Access under a CC BY 4.0 licence with a registered DOI; there are no submission or publication charges.

By submitting, authors confirm that the work is original, not under consideration elsewhere, and complies with the journal’s Publication Ethics.

Privacy Statement

The names, email addresses and other personal data entered on this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal — namely the management of the editorial and publication process — and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

What we collect. When you register we collect your name, affiliation, email address and, optionally, your ORCID iD, biography and areas of interest. These data support submission, peer review, editorial communication and, where relevant, the crediting of authorship and reviewing.

How we use it. Personal data are processed only by the editorial office, editors, assigned reviewers and the technical administrator, on a confidential basis. Author names and affiliations are published with accepted articles as part of the scholarly record. Reviewer identities are kept confidential under the double-blind model.

Storage and sharing. Data are stored securely on the journal server. Article metadata (including author names and affiliations) are shared with indexing services such as Crossref, Google Scholar and OAI-PMH harvesters as an inherent part of scholarly publishing. We do not sell personal data or use it for marketing.

Your rights. You may review, correct or request deletion of your personal data by contacting the editorial office, subject to the need to preserve the integrity of the published scholarly record.
